The day my world fell apart.
The day my Grandpa breathed his final breath.
The day I lost my hero.

John Daniel Hernan, son of Michael J. and Mary C. (Higgins) Hernan, husband of Virginia (Sentz) Hernan, father of: Kathleen G., Michael Hernan, Patricia (Trishie) M., John (Hoosie) H., Barbara B., Virginia (Gina) C., Thomas H., and Kelly H.

Grandfather of 19 lovely grandchildren and eleven wonderful great-grandchildren. He was never seen in a picture without a baby in his arms or a beer in his hand. He was a little Irishman that grew up in Youngstown, Ohio and became a carpenter. He was married to his wife for 63 years and lived in the house he built for 42, half of his life.

He was the nicest, most generous man you could find. A very religious catholic, a friend to all, and a giver to the needy. He would help you out no matter who you were, what sins you committed, or what situation you were in.

He died November 6th in his house surrounded by his family. I held his hand for an hour before and I spoke to him. I praised his strength, told him how he was my hero, the good memories, and the only time I stopped talking was to wipe away my tears or let my mom give him medicine. He took medicine that dried up his fluids in his body. At 11:59, he squeezed my hand and his eyelids fluttered. I called my mom and dried his tears he had cried. He opened his eyes, looked at us and his breathing changed then stopped.

John Daniel Hernan was my hero.
I lost him to leukemia on November 6th.
It was supposed to be impossible for him to cry...
But he did.
He was truly an angel, a miracle in disguise.
I love him.
